The edTPA & "Making Good Choices"
Reading through the edTPA “Making
Good Choices” support guide was both daunting and beneficial. Looking through
all the requirements, I question if this is something that I am even capable of
doing. However, thinking back to the last couple quarters in the education
program, I have questioned myself a lot, and I have always come out successful
and proud of myself for what I have accomplished. As intimidating as the edTPA
is, this support guide is going to be extremely beneficial when it comes time
to completing the real edTPA. Already many questions have been answered by
reading through this. I also think that it is helpful to be educated and aware
of what will be required ahead of time. One section was focused on the video
recording section of the edTPA and I found the tips given to be helpful. The
guide gives you ideas to consider before recording to ensure that you are
getting the best material that you can. It also gives you tips on what video
clips you should select to submit. The entire support guide is chalk full of
tips and requirements to ensure that what you are submitting is the best that
it can be. When I was first reading this, I started getting upset at the
lengths we must go to pass the edTPA. But as I kept reading, I remembered that
being able to prove I can do this, or that anyone who is trying to become a
teacher can do this, ensures the best teachers for our future students. We need
teachers who are constantly reflecting on their lessons and their purpose and
the success of their students. Without taking the extra time to do so, the students
will be the ones missing out on a fulfilling education. Even though the edTPA
is intimidating, being able to pass it and officially become a teacher will be
such a rewarding experience.
